A Track Record for Giving Back

Greyt Pets

Palm Beach Kennel Club is very interested in the welfare of our Greyhounds. And that interest remains long after the dogs' racing days are over. Greyhounds who are retired need the love and compassion of an individual or family that can care for them. And they make great pets; they are gentle, friendly, affectionate and are easy to care for.

PBKC works with Awesome Greyhound Adoptions / Hounds & Heroes, Greyhound Pet Adoption, Greyed A Greyhounds and Greyhound Support Transport. These volunteer-based groups operate in similar fashion, screening and informing potential adoptees to find the right Greyhound for the right person or family. These groups are frequent visitors to the track, returning with adopted family members to discuss the joys of Greyhound adoption with interested visitors.

The Greyhound racing industry has made a strong commitment to animal welfare from the farm to the track. Efforts such as:

Animal Welfare Guidelines Program – the adoption of standard guidelines for the care of Greyhounds and the maintenance of kennel facilities.

Farm Inspection Program – Farms and kennels are inspected to verify compliance with the animal welfare guidelines.

National Greyhound Adoption Effort – through the American Greyhound Council grants, Adoption Hotline and state and track-based programs, adoptions have increased significantly.

Industry policies require owners to accept responsibility for their dogs at all times, and impose stiff penalties for those who fail to live up to their obligations. The fact is that racing greyhounds receive the very best of care from devoted trainers who ensure clean and comfortable surroundings, a nutritious diet of fresh meat, vegetables and high-protein feed, and immediate veterinary care when required.
