$50,000 Classic Namesake, the Legendary He’s My Man!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON, JANUARY 14! EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

West Palm Beach, Fl. – Round-two qualifying action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic takes place Saturday afternoon, January 14.

And if the second round was anything like round one, expect the fur to fly!

Seventy-One Greyhounds who competed in the first round of qualifying last Wednesday afternoon will return for the second round, facing different Classic entries and all striving to be among the top 32 point earners.

The above mentioned 32 will go on to compete in round three on Wednesday afternoon, January 18, with the top 16 point earners moving on to the Classic semifinals on Sunday afternoon, January 22.

The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finale will be contested Saturday afternoon, January 28.

After a historic nine first-round qualifying races, only two wagering favorites crossed the finish line first, Allaboutthefame and Barts Big Bang.

A quick rundown of Saturday’s qualifiers:

In Race 2, one of the pre-championship favorites #5 Superior Tyson (Dragon Fire – Superior Date, B & B Racing) must put in a great showing or risk being eliminated. The entry in the best post position is #1 “Clifford, The” Big Red Dog (Rhythmless – KB’s La Bella, Rader Racing Kennel).

In Race 4, round-one victor #2 B’s Happy Girl (Killer Dare – BOC’s Katie Girl, Arthur Agganis Kennel) may be challenged by the well-positioned #1 KB’s Katana (Flying Coal City – KB’s By A Mile, Koppe, Staats & Collins) and #8 HilcoAgnes (Kiowa Mon Manny – Super C Angeline, B & B Racing).

Race 6 could be a redemption event for the round-one defeated favorite #1 Pat C Analise (Pat C Clement – Pac C Abileena, Koppe, Staats & Collins).

Race 8 offers up two Greyhounds going for the twofer, #2 Make Me Like You (Pacific Mile* – Fastestgirlintown, James Douglas) and #5 Hot Prospect Gal (Last Outlaw – Flaring Fiesta, Arthur Agganis).

Point wise, Race 9 is a relatively weak field, but with huge ramifications. This is the last chance that another pre-Classic final hopeful must finish at or near the top to move on to round three. “The Weather Machine” #7 Janice Dean (Rhythmless – Audra Barkley, Brindle Kennel) is forecast to be in a good post position to move on to at least one more round.

In Race 10, #1 Marsha Ambrosius (Flying Coal City – On The Fly, Brindle Kennel) will be going for her third-overall-consecutive victory, while in Race 12, a trio of first-round winners will meet in the racing arena for the first time, #1 NB’s Stallion (Gable Sour Cream – CBJ Cocoa, Royal Racing Team), #3 Quick Reserve (Maryville Rumble* – Direct Response, B & B Racing) and last month’s $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity champion, #4 Allaboutthefame (KC And All – Abilene Abby, Janie Carroll). Another Greyhound in this event who is in a great post position, #8 Ice Buster (Kiowa Mon Manny – Outshineeveryone, James Douglas).

Race 14 features the first-round winner who rewarded his backers with a win payoff of $70.60, #6 Bob’s Seahawk (Flying Coal City – Bob’s Ikea, Arthur Agganis). Two Greyhounds who could prove to be a thorn in his side are the duo of #1 Mystic Melody (Makeshift – Nightingale, Lester Raines) and #8 O Ya Delta Dawn (Defrim Bale* – O Ya Minnie, Janie Carroll).

Race 15 will feature the Classic entry who clocked the fastest qualifying time victory (29.52 seconds), #1 Barts Big Bang (Pat C Clement – Barts Magpie, James Douglas). Trying to stop the Big Bang will be the always consistent #3 CBJ Tootsie Roll (Gable Sour Cream – CBJ Choc O Lat, Royal Racing Team), Futurity finalist #5 JS Outlaw Legend (Djays Octane – JS Little B, Koppe, Staats & Collins) and another Dick Andrews finalist, #7 O Ya Sunflower (Gold Town* – O Ya Aunt Bee, Lester Raines).

The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic is the first event in Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $150,000 “Big 3″ Stakes series, which includes the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby (Saturday afternoon, February 25) and the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational (Saturday afternoon, March 18).

The Classic is named for Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas.

Point System: 1st – 15 points, 2nd – 10, 3rd – 6, 4th – 4, 5th – 3, 6th – 2, 7th – 1, 8th – 0
