RADER RACING KENNEL’S DUXBURY WINS PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 DICK ANDREWS FUTURITY!

SETS NEW FUTURITY STAKE RECORD CLOCKING!

West Palm Beach, Fl. –  Sometimes you know who will win a race a few seconds after the starting box opens. Sometimes you find out the winner as the result of a photo finish.

In the twenty-first running of the $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity, it may have taken about six seconds after the race began that you knew who the championship blanket would be placed on.

First, the setup of the final voyage would give you a clue, as all the early-speed contenders were posted in the inside boxes, while the rushers and late speed would be breaking from the outside.

One rule of handicapping is when you have a group of super-early speedsters’ side-by-side, maybe one or two will be able to clear the first turn trouble free. Often, a first turn jam will ensue and end the hopes of those yearning to win their first major championship.

When the starting box opened, it was XKT Stubby blasting out of the three post, followed by two of the outside finalists and fan favorites, Duxbury and Magnus Marvel.

As the pack of contenders went into the first turn, the inevitable happened. As XKT Stubby, Duxbury and Magnus Marvel cleared unscathed, the remainder of the finalists were closely bunched and as a result, five of young hopefuls were denied their chance at a Futurity championship.

Following the first-turn traffic jam, it was clearly evident who the first three finishers would be.

Duxbury was in command, being chased by Magnus Marvel. XKT Stubby cleared the first-turn ruckus and was giving it her all to hold on and earn the third-place purse money.

Duxbury was victorious by more than five lengths and traversed the 545-Yard Royal Palm Course in a Dick Andrews Futurity record-setting time of 29.35 seconds, returning $4.60 to her many, many supporters.

Magnus Marvel, XKT Stubby and Barts These Eyes finished second, third and fourth, respectively.

And a special shout out goes to James Douglas Kennel’s Barts These Eyes, who was one the receiving end of the first-turn trouble and made a super-canine effort to make up a lot of track to finish fourth, missing third place by a mere one-half length.

Kudos also goes out Rader Racing Kennel on winning their expanding record eighth $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity championship.

The newly-crowned champ collected a cool $10,000 for her impressive two-length victory.

The complete order of finish:

1st – #6. Duxbury (Pat C Clement – WW Lonesome Dove, Rader Racing)

2nd – #7. Magnus Marvel (Golden Squire – Magdalena, D. Q. Williams)

The Futurity is named in honor of former PBKC kennel operator, humanitarian and 2004 inductee to the Greyhound Hall of Fame Dick Andrews.
