ROUND THREE QUALIFYING FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 GALLAGHER / KINNAIRD LABOR DAY PUPPY STAKES, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 21!
West Palm Beach, Fl. – Qualifying for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes continues with third-round action Wednesday afternoon, August 21.
After two rounds and ten qualifying races, there are two entries who will attempt to enter the semifinals undefeated, D. Q. Williams Kennel’s Rafe Up Theriver (CTW Pipe Down – Lonely Heart) and Rader Racing Kennel’s Stay Awhile (Flying Coal City – Juke Box Hero).
In Race 12, #7 Rafe Up Theriver will put his qualifying win streak on the line. The only possible roadblock could be his next-door neighbor in the six post Midget Wrestling (Flying Coal City – Juke Box Hero, Rader Racing). But considering that Rafe Up Theriver turned in the two fastest times not only in qualifying but for both performances, 29.69 and 29.37 seconds, he undoubtably will go off at odds below even money.
The final qualifier of the afternoon in Race 15 features our other unbeaten puppy stakes entry, #5 Stay Awhile. This rising superstar, who will be going for his fourth-consecutive victory, may face some early competition from the inside in the sleek-forms of early speedsters #1 Bartschumpchange (KC And All – Bartssheswaycool, James Douglas) and #3 Bab Guys N Dolls (Rhythmless – Maliceindapalace, Brindle Kennel). However, the biggest threat to Stay Awhile will come from the eight post and B’s Breva (SH Avatar – Oaks Mocha, Janie Carroll). This pup has been putting in some tremendous efforts and finally will be breaking from his preferred starting box.
Third-round qualifiers will also be held in races 8, 10 and 14.
The top 16-point earners following round three will advance to the Puppy Stakes semifinals slated for Monday afternoon, August 26.
The $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes championship final will be contested Monday afternoon, September 2, Labor Day.
Post time for the first race Wednesday afternoon is 1:00 p.m. with gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
Formerly known as the Labor Day Puppy Stakes, this marks the eleventh year of its’ new moniker, named in memory of two Palm Beach County legendary sportscasters, and great friends of Palm Beach Kennel Club, Jim Gallagher and Buck Kinnaird.
