West Palm Beach, Fl. – Round three qualifying action for our biggest in-house stake race in our 88-year history, the $100,000 Legacy Grand Championship, gets underway Wednesday afternoon, November 25.
All the Greyhounds from round one and two will return for rounds three.
Following the third round, the field will be halved to 32 with those entries competing in rounds four and five on Saturday afternoon, November 28 and December 2, respectively.
Following round five, the field will be halved again to the sweet 16, with the semifinals being contested on Saturday afternoon, December 5.
The top eight-point earners following the semifinals will compete in the Palm Beach Kennel Club $100,000 Legacy Grand Championship finale on Saturday evening, December 12.
The eight semifinalists who did not make the final will compete in the Andrew Holmes Memorial Award Feature.
Points will carryover throughout the entire stake series.
Qualifying races will be held in races 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 15.
A quick rundown of Wednesday afternoon’s qualifying events:
Race 2: This qualifier looks to be a three-Greyhound affair featuring #1 Kells Xterra (Flying Fired Up – Kells Believer, Rader Racing), #5 Jax Blow Pop (Stealintheshow – Jax Pop The Tab, D. Q. Williams) and #8 I’m Not Buggin (Seldom Told – Sweet Ginger, Lester Raines).
Race 4: This event features several qualifying round winners as well as some entries who have a good shot at earning their first qualifying win. This qualifier is a toughie!
Race 6: This event features round-one winner and entry in the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational, #2 Barts Sea Hawk (Gold Town* – Seadon Traveler, James Douglas). Sea Hawk had a tough second-round and we have yet to see how or if it will affect him. Otherwise, keep a keen eye on #7 Thrill U (Need My Moneynow – Miss Kate, D. Q. Williams) who is coming off an impressive second-round effort.
Race 8: The Greyhound to beat in this qualifier is Rader Racing Kennel’s #7 Opal Long (Pat C Clement – Winta Garoppolo). Also pay close attention to the huge closer, #5 Coin Collector (Kinda Cruel Red – Daytona, Janie Carroll).
Race 10: Several Legacy entries have a shot at winning this qualifying round, including #1 Clap Back (Superior Panama – Sabrina, B & B Racing), #3 Open Throttle (Need My Moneynow – MW’s Morrigan, D. Q. Williams) and #5 B’s Americano (SH Avatar – Oaks Mocha, Janie Carroll). An interesting race to handicap.
Race 12: It appears that the one to catch in this qualifier will be #7 Abbi’s Frontman (Superior Panama – ABS Almighty, Janie Carroll). Then it’s just a matter who is in a good spot to possibly catch him. Some of those contenders include #1 AMF Sassy Limbo (Djays Octane – AMF Sassy Lexi, B & B Racing), #2 CBJ Shocker (Kiowa Mon Manny – CBJ Waterford, Arthur Agganis) and #8 Told Ya Donald (Seldom Told – Paul Walker (D. Q. Williams).
Race 14: Three Greyhounds come into this event, each with one qualifying win, #5 Oshkosh Thriller (Oshkosh Lamont – Oshkosh Amber, James Douglas), #6 KBR Ariel (Super Lee – HS Turbine, Rader Racing) and #7 Mineral Spirits (Who Says I Can’t – Good Luck Ruby, D. Q. Williams). There are a couple of other entries who could have a chance to pull off that famous “round three” upset. An interesting race to watch and possibly cash in big on!
Race 15: The Greyhound to beat in the afternoons final Legacy qualifying event is our recently crowned winner of the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational, and the only entry to win the first two rounds, #5 Bug Brush (SH Avatar – Flying Lipstick, Lester Raines). His main challenger could be #4 Keep On Rockin (Need My Moneynow – Diamond Tears, D. Q. Williams) who has put in back-to-back impressive efforts coming from off the pace. Bug Brush will be going for his overall eighth-consecutive victory.
Post time for the first race Wednesday afternoon is 1:00pm.
Point System: – 1st – 15 points, 2nd – 10 points, 3rd – 6 points, 4th – 4 points, 5th – 3 points, 6th – 2 points,
7th – 1 point, 8th – 0 points.
