Post positions have been drawn and the Greyhounds are set and ready to go for this Saturday afternoon’s 86th running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 James W. Paul Three-Eighths Mile Derby.
This year’s field is one of the most versatile, featuring Greyhounds with super-early speed, outstanding first-turn rushers and heart-pounding closers.
Most likely the post time favorite will be the super-early speedster, Fraulein Morgan, who is set up nicely wearing the blue silk of post-position two.
Possible early challenges for Morgan will come in the sleek forms of Janice Dean, O Ya Maybelline and Go Bon Kickstart.
However, if there are any traffic problems in the early going, one of the other Derby finalists are perfectly capable of taking advantage.
The eight 2017 $50,000 James W. Paul Derby finalists in post-position order:

- Wicked Twista(Dyna Nalin* – Luxurious Trent, North Shore Kennel)
- Go Bon Kickstart(Djays Octane – Go Bon Pure Lee, Royal Racing Team)
- RY’s Priscilla(Djays Octane – Oakland Handcuff, Brindle Kennel)
- Barts Wanna Bet(Fuzzys Cannon – B’s Merry Mary, James Douglas Kennel)
Post time for Saturday afternoon’s first race is 1:00 p.m. and for the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby, in Race 12, approximately 4:00 p.m.
This will be the 86th running of the Derby, one of the nation’s longest-running stake events.
The Three-Eighths Mile is named in honor of humanitarian, greyhound owner and dedicated supporter of greyhound adoption, James W. Paul.
