ROUND TWO QUALIFYING FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 GALLAGHER / KINNAIRD LABOR DAY PUPPY STAKES, SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 19!
West Palm Beach, Fl. – Qualifying for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes continues with second-round action Saturday afternoon, August 19.
First, congratulations go out to the Brindle Kennel, under the guidance of trainer Alvin Rink, the winner of three of the four first-round qualifiers!
All the Greyhounds from round two will advance to round three, which will be contested Wednesday afternoon, August 23.
The top 16 point earners following the third round will advance to the Puppy Stakes semifinals, slated for Monday afternoon, August 28.
The $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes championship final will be contested Monday afternoon, September 4, Labor Day.
Qualifying begins Saturday afternoon in Race 10, and what a contest it’s going to be! Two round-one victors will go muzzle-to-muzzle as #4 Mike Smith (Maxasaurus – Kiowa Frank Lazy, James Douglas) tangles with “The Anvil” #5 Jim Neidhart (Djays Octane – Audra Barkley, Brindle). Neidhart “camel clutched” the competition last Wednesday with a stunning come-from-behind victory in the afternoon’s fastest qualifying time of 29.74 seconds.
Also, featured in Race 10 are first-round runner ups #2 SE’s Rock All In (KC And All – Roc A By Shu Shu, James Douglas) and #6 Exceptional View (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing. And you can’t leave out the well-positioned brother to Exceptional View, #1 Tip Top. This is going to be an exciting race!
In Race 12, #4 K’s Bonnie (Pat C Sabbath – Bow Chicabow Wow, Brindle) will attempt to enter round three undefeated and score her fifth-consecutive win. Up for the challenge are early speedsters #2 Ace Candy (Kiowa Myth – Kiowa Try Tori, Arthur Agganis) and #3 CH Super Fly (Super Lee – JJ Full N Sassy, James Douglas). One most also keep a keen eye on two entries with tremendous closing ability, #1 Superlative Boss (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing) and #6 Kiowa Sure Task (Sure As – Kiowa Wildbraves, Rader Racing).
Race 14 features longshot first-round winner #6 K’s Buster (Pat C Sabbath – Bow Chicabow Wow, Brindle) who paid out a whopping $48.80-win ticket to his lucky supporters. The big question in this qualifier is who can challenge Buster for the early lead? Jumping off the race page are #3 Atascocita Eaton (Flying Westover – Atascocita Golda, Suncoast) and #7 Feeling A Breeze (Pat C Clement – Keen Katy, Arthur Agganis). And then you switch to the entries who have a shot of coming from off the pace to score the win, and fitting into that category are #2 Exemplary Queen (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing) and the very well positioned #8 Motley Mick Mars (Djays Octane – Dodi Lou, Brindle).
And then we come to the final qualifier in Race 15. My oh my.
In what could be the best bet of the entire qualifying series, sitting pretty in the eight post, is the record setting-solid Grade “A” racer, Noteworthy Starz. If you peruse the race page, you’ll notice that there is not another Puppy Stakes entry that has ever competed in the top grade. As mentioned earlier, this is what some would call “the lock of the century” or it will provide a huge payoff if what is apparent on paper takes another route.
Post time for the first race Saturday afternoon is 1:00 p.m. with gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
In addition, Palm Beach Kennel Club will be offering a $10,000 guaranteed Pick 4.
Formerly known as the Labor Day Puppy Stakes, this marks the ninth year of its’ new moniker, named in memory of two Palm Beach County legendary sportscasters, and great friends of Palm Beach Kennel Club, Jim Gallagher and Buck Kinnaird.
