RAIL DEFENDER, GRAND AZUL, JSK LUBBOCK AND JT’S BLINDNSPEED LEAD CONTENDERS IN ROUND 3 OF PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 DICK ANDREWS FUTURITY, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, DECEMBER 13!
West Palm Beach, Fl. – Qualifying for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity continues with third-round action Wednesday afternoon, December 13.
After two rounds and 12 qualifying races, a record four Greyhounds will have the opportunity to enter the sweet 16 with an unblemished record.
A quick go-over of Wednesday afternoon’s third round of qualifying:
Race 10 features the undefeated #6 Rail Defender (Stealintheshow – Shot At The Nite, Janie Carroll Kennel). This fantastic pup can do it all. She can win races going box-to-wire or by coming from off the pace. It appears that Rail Defender will have to do the latter in this event, facing off against the early-speed entries #1 Craigie Parnell (KC And All – Budz Kenzie, Lester Raines Kennel) and #7 BF Par Slim (Super Lee – BF Flying Grace, Royal Racing Team).
Race 12 has no double-round winners, but does feature one of the pre-championship favorites #5 Eyesappealing (Barcia Bale – Goldilocks, Lester Raines). Early challenges could come from the sleek forms of the well-positioned #1 AMF Best Be Done (KC And All – AMF Buzzinaround, B & B Racing), #6 Exceptional View (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing) and #7 TWPA Hope (Loxahatchee Dash – Takebackyourmink, Rader Racing).
Race 14 highlights the undefeated #2 Grand Azul (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing). Although Azul prefers the outside and is racing against some tougher competition, the post draw gave him an early Christmas present. Positioned to his immediate right are the slow breaking #3 Stingray Coupe (Dyna Nalin* – Red Corvette, Royal Racing Team) and #4 PR Susan (RCK Iron Warrior – RCK Lady Nile, Lester Raines). This should allow Grand Azul to have a clean rush to the first turn and score the turkey.
Race 15 appears to be a classic. The Battle at the Beach! Featured contenders are the unbeaten #3 JSK Lubbock (Atascocita Gray – JSK I Love Lucy, B & B Racing) and the fast-rising superstar #4 JT’s Blindnspeed (Pat C Sabbath – Julianne Hough, Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel). While all four of unbeaten Futurity entries already have enough points to proceed to the semifinals, both will be looking to add to their resumes as Lubbock will also be going for his eighth-consecutive victory, while Blindnspeed will be going his fourth straight win. Throwing a potential wrench into the storyline may be the super-early speedster #2 Racing Wishes (Kiowa Mon Manny – Racing Angel, Lester Raines), already a winner of four of her six career races.
The top 16 point earners following the third round will advance to the Futurity semifinals slated for Monday afternoon, December 18.
The $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity championship final will be contested Tuesday afternoon, December 26.
Post time for the first race Wednesday afternoon is 1:00 p.m. with gates opening at 11:30 a.m.
The Futurity is named in honor of former PBKC kennel operator, humanitarian and 2004 inductee to the Greyhound Hall of Fame Dick Andrews.
