TIP TOP INSTALLED AS MORNING LINE FAVORITE IN PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $50,000 HE’S MY MAN CLASSIC, SATURDAY AFTERNOON, JANUARY 27!
West Palm Beach, Fl. – It’s going to be one of the most competitive stake races in Greyhound history as Palm Beach Kennel Club presents the 38th running of the prestigious $50,000 He’s My Man Classic, Saturday afternoon, January 27.
It’s fair to say that no kennel was particularly happy with the post positions drawn for their respective Greyhounds.
The likely post time favorite looks to be Tip Top, and for good reason. “Tipper” is currently this season’s track win leader and is recently coming off a historic 16-race win streak.
It’s fair to say, that if Tip Top hits the break and has the lead entering the backstretch, then his next stop will be the winner’s circle.
But as with many stake races, things don’t always go the way they look on paper.
Challenging Tip Top for the early advantage will be early speedsters O Ya Baby Blue, last month’s $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity champion Eyesappealing , stakes finalist and brother to Tip Top and Top Notch, Grand Azul and perhaps most importantly, JSK Lubbock.
You see, Lubbock breaks well from any post position, however he has a definite penchant for the rail, sometimes to the detriment of himself and others. Will he get a clean lead? Will he have contact with some of the other $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finalists?
Another possibility is that the brother duo of JT’s Blindnspeed and JT’s In The Bank will have room to rush the first turn. Why? Because sitting between them is the Classic’s slowest breaker, Top Notch. This will give the Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel’s siblings the few scant seconds after the starting box opens to get themselves into good positions entering the backstretch.
And as for Top Notch himself, the slowest breaker and yet the fastest closer, any trouble in the finale will be to his advantage as he will simply go around it and cruise to an upset victory.
As you can see, multiple possibilities for this exciting finale!
The 2018 $50,000 He’s My Man Classic field in post-position order:
- JT’s Blindnspeed (Pat C Sabbath – Julianne Hough, Koppe, Staats & Collins)
- Top Notch (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing)
- JT’s In The Bank (Pat C Sabbath – Julianne Hough, Koppe, Staats & Collins)
- O Ya Baby Blue (KC And All – O Ya Cranberry, Janie Carroll)
- Grand Azul (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing)
- Tip Top (Barcelona Boss – Kiowa Starz Sage, Rader Racing)
- Eyesappealing (Barcia Bale – Goldilocks, Lester Raines)
- JSK Lubbock (Atascocita Gray – JSK I Love Lucy, B & B Racing)
The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finalists will meet in Saturday afternoon’s twelfth race with an approximate post time of 4:00 p.m., all going for the $25,000 first-place prize.
The Classic is named in honor of Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas.
