ROUND ONE QUALIFYING FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $20,000 GALLAGHER / KINNAIRD PUPPY STAKES, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 14!

West Palm Beach, Fl. – Round one qualifying action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes gets underway Wednesday afternoon, August 14.

A total of 40 of the track’s most promising up-and-coming superstars will compete in five qualifying events.

All 40 Greyhounds will advance to round two on Saturday afternoon, August 17 and then again in round three, Wednesday afternoon, August 21.

The top 16-point earners from the third round will advance to the Puppy Stakes semifinals, Monday afternoon, August 26.

The $20,000 Gallagher / Kinnaird Puppy Stakes championship final will be contested Monday afternoon, September 2, Labor Day.

This year’s field of youngsters is very interesting. Of the 40 entries, a total of 14 are currently competing in Grade A or Grade B.

A quick rundown of some of Wednesday afternoon’s qualifiers:

Race 8 features the well-posted early-speedster #8 Imark Tequila (Barcelona Boss – Magic Droid, B & B Racing). “Tequila” has the class and speed to win this event and should go off as the race favorite.

There’s no doubt who the fan favorite will be in Race 10. Coming off a Grade “A” win, and the only Grade “A” entry in the race, #7 Stay Awhile (Flying Coal City – Juke Box Hero, Rader Racing) should easily enter round two with a victory.

Several entries have a shot at the win in Race 12. Perhaps positioned best is #1 Rafe Up Theriver (CTW Pipe Down – Lonely Heart, D. Q. Williams). This past July 25, “River” won his race from the one post by ten lengths in a blazing 29.68 seconds. One of the season’s fastest.

Race 14 features one of the pre-championship favorites, the super-early speedster #1 Bartschumpchange (KC And All – Bartssheswaycool, James Douglas). There’s no doubt he will be the pacesetter and the odds are slim any of the other entries will catch him. A good Greyhound to key him with, the always-improving #5 Flight Tracker (Lonesome Cry – Fraulein Morgan, Janie Carroll Kennel).

A qualifier will also be held in Race 15.

Post time for the first race Wednesday afternoon is 1:00 p.m.

Formerly known as the Labor Day Puppy Stakes, this marks the eleventh year of its’ popular incarnation, named in memory of two Palm Beach County legendary sportscasters, and great friends of Palm Beach Kennel Club, Jim Gallagher and Buck Kinnaird.

Also Wednesday matinee, Palm Beach Kennel Club will be offering a $5,000 guaranteed Pick-4 jackpot on Races 9 through 12.
