OUTSTANDING FIELD FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB $50,000 HE’S MY MAN CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP
SATURDAY AFTERNOON, JANUARY 19!
RADER RACING KENNEL’S DUXBURY GOES THROUGH QUALIFYING UNDEFEATED!
West Palm Beach, Fl. – The final eight Greyhounds have been determined for Saturday afternoon’s 39th running of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic.
Most of the time, in any race, you have your early speed competitors, your strong first-turn rushers and your reliable late-speed athletes.
But in this year’s 39th running of the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic, all eight finalists fall in the categories of blazing early speedsters and tremendous first-turn rushers.
Therefore, as in most stake race finals, it’s all going to come down to post positions.
The most likely post time Classic favorite is Rader Racing Kennel’s Duxbury, and for good reason.
Duxbury is the only Greyhound to go undefeated through four qualifying rounds. A very rare feat indeed. This beautiful girl was also the winner of last month’s $20,000 Dick Andrews Futurity. And her running time in that event of 29.35 seconds is a new Futurity stake record.
But there are seven other finalists who could throw a dog bone into the mix and deny Duxbury her seventh-consecutive victory and back-to-back championships.
First, we have the blinding early speed of Amanda Bynes. She has been first or second to the first turn in 10 of her last 11 races. Also representing the early speed brigade is Palm Beach Kennel Club’s representative in the January 26 running of Naples/Ft. Greyhound Track’s National Championship, MW’s T Rex. This apex predator currently is tied for second-place on the kennel club’s season win list. In addition, we have the reliable, yet sometimes not properly recognized, Bessie Coleman. Bessie enters the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic championship with 23 on-the-pay sheet finishes out of 29 season races. And how about our surprise Classic finalist, Jackrabbit Slim. This handsome fellow, when in the right spot, can blow the doors off the competition with his powerful rush to the first turn.
Rounding out the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic field is perhaps the biggest threat to Duxbury and company, Magnus Marvel. In the semifinals, he almost put an end to Duxbury’s win streak, missing by just a mere neck. Also, in the mix with hopefully a good post position is Arthur Agannis Kennel’s PJS Its All Me. Not a household name yet, but this beautifully marked Greyhound always gives 100% when he competes.
Wrapping up the field is our sentimental favorite, Flat Chat Cuppa. “Yodel” was the winner of last year’s $20,000 Bob Balfe Puppy Stakes and was victorious in the first two qualifying rounds of the $50,000 He’s My Man Classic.
The eight 2019 $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finalists, in order of points earned:
60 Points: Duxbury (Pat C Clement – WW Lonesome Dove, Rader Racing)
50 Points: Amanda Bynes (TMC’s Remedy – Lorna’s Cannon, D. Q. Williams)
37 Points: Magnus Marvel (Golden Squire – Magdalena, D. Q. Williams)
37 Points: Bessie Coleman (Goodlucksterling – Miss Kate, D. Q. Williams)
36 Points: MW’s T Rex (Aerial Battle – MW Neptunia, D. Q. Williams)
35 Points: Flat Chat Cuppa (KC And All – Kiowa Jill Vik, Janie Carroll)
33 Points: PJS Its All Me (Rhythmless – PJS Reckless, Arthur Agganis)
31 Points: Jackrabbit Slim (Gable Sour Cream – Mavericks Penny, Rader Racing)
The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic finalists will meet in Saturday afternoon’s twelfth race, all going for the $25,000 first-place prize.
A press conference and post-position draw will be held in the track’s Terrace Restaurant Thursday afternoon, January 17, commencing at 11:45 a.m.
The $50,000 He’s My Man Classic is the first event in Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $150,000 “Big 3″ Stakes series, which includes the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby (Saturday afternoon, February 23) and the $50,000 Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. St. Patrick’s Invitational (Saturday afternoon, March 16).
The Classic is named in honor of Palm Beach Kennel Club racing legend and the track’s first multimedia sensation He’s My Man and dedicated to the man who raised and trained “Roscoe”, Bill Pappas.
