ROUND TWO QUALIFYING FOR PALM BEACH KENNEL CLUB’S $50,000 JAMES W. PAUL DERBY, SATURDAY AFTERNOON, FEBRUARY 15!

West Palm Beach, Fl. – Second-round qualifying action for Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby takes place Saturday afternoon, February 15.

All the Greyhounds from round one will compete Saturday afternoon in four qualifying events.

All the entries will move on to round three on Wednesday afternoon, February 19.

Following the third round, the top 16-point earners will compete in the Derby semifinals slated for Sunday afternoon, February 23.

The top eight-point scorers after the semis will go on to compete in the final of the $50,000 James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby on Saturday afternoon, February 29.

A quick rundown of Saturday afternoon’s qualifiers:

Race 10: No first-round winners in this qualifier. It’s a wide-open race and one could make a case for each of the entries.

Race 12: There is no doubt the race favorite will be round-one winner #2 JD Android (JD titanium – Allisonracinteam, Brindle Kennel). She will be going for her sixth-consecutive win and possesses the second-fastest clocking ever on the 660-Yard Pat C Rendezvous Course, 37.16 seconds. Some other entries that drew good post positions include #1 Busan (SH Avatar – Party Hardy, Brindle) and a must use on your tickets, #7 O Ya Praire Wind (Oya Stan The Man – O Ya Chewie, Lester Raines).

Race 14: This qualifier could produce one of the lowest-paying Quinielas in a long time, featuring the couplet of round-one victor #1 Slatex Beretta (Flying Fired Up – Slatex Albany, Janie Carroll) and first-round runner-up, #8 Buyusumnewshoes (Superior Panama – Joy Giovanni, Rader Racing). Both drew favorable post positions and may be co-race favorites.

Race 15: The day’s final qualifier features two round-one winners, both attempting to enter round three undefeated. #3 B’s Cappuccino (SH Avatar – Oaks Mocha, Janie Carroll) will take on #5 Pat C Snickers (Pat C Clement – Pat C Deception, Koppe, Staats & Collins). Whoever enters the backstretch in front, will most likely win the race.

Post time for Saturday afternoon’s first race is 1:00 p.m.

This will be the 89th and final running of the Derby, one of the nation’s longest running stake events, and is named in honor of humanitarian, greyhound owner and dedicated supporter of Greyhound adoption James W. Paul.
